CrossFit Adds In-Person National Championships for 2027; Host Applications Close Oct. 30
Summary
CrossFit will crown 2027 national champions at in-person National Championships in host countries; applications to host close on 2026-10-30.
Key facts
- Path: Open, then Quarterfinals, then a country's National Championship.
- Applications to host close 2026-10-30 (no time published).
- The top 10 per country after Quarterfinals qualify automatically.
- Only citizens can take the title; individual men and women only.
- Without a host event, the top Open or Quarterfinals finisher is champion.
CrossFit announced on 2026-10-14 that, from the 2027 season, national champions will be decided at in-person National Championship events in countries that have a licensed host. Events that want to host must apply by 2026-10-30. CrossFit has not published a closing time.
The new path is Open, then Quarterfinals, then a country-specific National Championship. The winner of each host event earns the title of National Champion. In countries without a host event, the champion will still be the top finisher from that country in the Open or Quarterfinals.
To be eligible, athletes must complete the Open and Quarterfinals, submit scores for every workout, and be citizens of the country the event represents. The top 10 from each country after Quarterfinals qualify automatically for their national event. Each host decides how the rest of its field qualifies, either from the Quarterfinals leaderboard or through its own qualifier. If a non-citizen wins, the title goes to the highest-placed citizen. Only the individual men's and women's divisions are included, and one competition may host championships for more than one country.
Athletes can compete in both tracks: the CrossFit Games season for the Fittest on Earth title, and the National Championship track for a national title.
To host, an event must have at least a three-year track record, experience running fields of 150 or more athletes, an association with a CrossFit affiliate, and a target field of 30 men and 30 women (with some flexibility for smaller countries). It must take place between April and 2027-12-31 and invite its country's top 10 Quarterfinalists.
The change affects a title CrossFit has awarded since 2015. Until now it went to athletes based on online results or how far they advanced in the season. For 2026, CrossFit listed 304 athletes as National Champions.
