Athens Throwdown 2027 is a three-day functional fitness competition at the Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Athens, 16-18 April 2027, and a qualifying event of the 2027 World Fitness Series. Individuals qualify online in January; teams register straight into the finals.

About the event

Athens Throwdown has been held in Athens since 2015. The 2027 finals bring 1,536 athletes (640 individuals plus pairs and teams of four) to the Tae Kwon Do Stadium for three days, alongside a fitness expo, and the event is live-streamed on its social media. It is part of the 2027 World Fitness Series: podium places in Elite and the winners of Masters, Teenage and every team division earn spots for the 2027 World Fitness Championship. Total cash prizes reach up to €64,800.

Individuals: register from 14 Nov 2026, then an online qualifier of two workouts (released 11 Jan 2027, scores due 26 Jan 2027) filmed anywhere and judged on video; the top 640 are invited to the finals. Teams (pairs and Elite teams of four): no qualifier, the first teams to register in each division go straight to the finals. Finals: 16-18 April 2027, everyone competes all three days; in some divisions only the top 32 reach the final workout on Sunday afternoon.

How to get in

Individuals only. Two workouts released 11 Jan 2027 at 09:00 Greek time; scores and public YouTube links submitted on Circle21 by 26 Jan 2027 at 23:59 Greek time. Workouts can be repeated until the deadline. The Athens Throwdown judging team validates all videos; appeals within one day of the leaderboard. The top 640 individuals are invited to the finals.

Road to the World Fitness Championship

WFP lists 10 qualifying spots across 8 divisions. Athens Throwdown publishes: Individual Elite (men, women) 3 spots each, the top three in each; Masters 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ (men, women) 1+ spot, the winner of each; Teenage boys and girls 1+ spot, the winner of each; and 1+ spot for the winner of each pairs division (Elite Men, Rx Men and Mix, Intermediate Men and Mix, Scaled Men, Mix and Women) and of Team Elite of 4.

Finals day 3. Cuts to the top 32 for the final workout on Sunday afternoon in Elite Men, Rx Men, Intermediate Men and Women, Scaled Men and Women, Intermediate Mix and Men teams, and Scaled Mix and Men teams; no cuts elsewhere. Ends after 21:00 Greek time.

    9th year. Finals 4-6 April 2025, qualifiers 13-28 January 2025; 608 individuals invited and the first teams to register (Elite Men, Rx Mix, Scaled, Pre-Scaled) went straight to the finals; Circle21 shows 1,343 athletes registered. Elite Men: 1 Anestis Artemis, 2 Giorgos Karavis, 3 Marek Vácha. Elite Women: 1 Karin Frey, 2 Siria Meha, 3 Marika Seppälä. Team Elite Men: Poland (CrossFit Ełk @ CrossFit Strong House). Fees €50-312.

Frequently asked questions

Do teams have to qualify?

No. There are no team qualifiers: the first teams to register in each division (32 or 64 depending on the division) compete directly in the finals.

How do individuals submit qualifier scores?

Upload the video to YouTube as public (no copyrighted music), then log in to Circle21 and submit the score with the video link before 26 Jan 2027, 23:59 Greek time. Technical problems must be emailed to judges@athensthrowdown.com before the deadline.

Can I change division or get a refund?

Fees are non-refundable and registrations non-transferable. Individuals cannot change division once the qualifier workouts are released; team athletes cannot change division at any stage. A team may swap one of its two athletes before check-in, for a fee.

Do children need a spectator pass?

Everyone aged 12 and over needs a pass. Passes are non-refundable and 1-day passes are valid only on the day bought.

How are ties broken?

First by most workouts won, then by most 1st places, then most 2nd places, and so on.
