How to record a WFP online qualifier

In an online qualifier your score only counts if the video can be validated. The golden rule in the WFP rulebook is one continuous shot, with no cuts or edits, with your introduction, the weights and the clock on screen. This guide covers the 2026 rulebook and what Athens Throwdown asks for in 2027. Each event can add its own requirements: always read theirs.

Before you start: the golden rule

The WFP rulebook requires the video to be “one continuous shot”: a single take from your introduction, through weight and measurement verification, to the end of the workout, “uncut and unedited”. Any editing can void it and WFP will not accept the score.

The general 2027 Series rulebook is not published, so this guide relies on the 2026 one and on the Athens Throwdown 2027 rulebook. If your event says otherwise, the event’s rules win.

Checklist

  1. Read the workout scorecard: movements, weights, heights, distances and floor plan.

  2. Set up your space: the camera must show you in full and every movement, following the scorecard’s floor plan, without the judge blocking the view.

  3. Avoid clothes the colour of the background.

  4. Keep a clock visible throughout the workout: a physical one or a video app with a stopwatch.

  5. Don’t use a fisheye lens or anything that distorts the movement.

  6. Start recording and introduce yourself: full name, division and workout.

  7. Show the prescribed weights and measurements, with the measurement visible (heights, distances).

  8. Do the workout without stopping the recording. One shot from start to finish.

  9. Count properly: your score and your video must match. Lying about reps or times can mean disqualification.

  10. Upload the video as public to an accepted platform and then submit the link and score on the event’s site before the deadline.

Private video, or one WFP can’t open

Where to upload it

The 2026 rulebook accepts YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, WeTime, Wodproof and iCloud, always set to public. Upload the video at the same time as you submit the score: it takes time to upload and no extensions are given if you miss the deadline.

If the platform blocks the video, for instance over copyrighted music, WFP is not responsible. If there is a risk, mute the audio and show your name, division and workout on a whiteboard or paper.

Athens Throwdown 2027 is stricter: it asks for public YouTube and for you to submit the link, with your score, on its results platform.

What happens to your score: judges and penalties

A judge reviews your video and marks each no-rep. Each no-rep has a penalty and the score is also adjusted for false starts. If your equipment fails, fixing it is on you: the clock doesn’t stop.

You can appeal an online score, but you must tell WFP by email within 24 hours of your result appearing on the results platform. Only the affected athlete, the team captain, the legal guardian of a minor or the coach can appeal.

How a score is validated in the 2027 Series: each stop sets its own rules

Athens Throwdown has published its 2027 rulebook: individual athletes record their qualifier workouts and upload public YouTube videos, which the Athens Throwdown judging team reviews. The other stops have not published how they validate scores: to be confirmed. The rule about a video WFP can validate or a Fitness Project gym belongs to WFP’s online Rec League and does not apply to the stops. Until each stop publishes its rulebook, follow the event’s own and always record.
