2027 CrossFit Games Adaptive

The Adaptive division is for athletes with a significant, permanent impairment. In 2027 it has 16 divisions, each with men and women, run by WheelWOD, which organises the Adaptive Open, the Semifinal and the final. It all starts in the same weeks as the Open. Final spots depend on how many people register for the Open, and the 2027 rulebook, fee and dates are to be confirmed.

Who competes in Adaptive

Athletes with a significant, permanent impairment, who must be functionally classified through WheelWOD. The classification decides which of the 16 divisions you compete in. The details of how it works in 2027 and its fee will come with the 2027 Adaptive rulebook, which is not published.

The 16 divisions

Each with men and women: Upper Impairment 1 Point of Contact, Upper Impairment 2 Points of Contact, Lower Impairment Above Knee, Lower Impairment Below Knee, Lower Minor, Neuromuscular Major, Neuromuscular Moderate, Neuromuscular Minor, Visual Impairment, Short Stature, Seated 1 Without Hip Function, Seated 2 With Hip Function, Seated 3 Quadriplegic, Standing Diagnosed, Intellectual without Chromosomal Condition and Intellectual with Chromosomal Condition.

How an Adaptive athlete qualifies, step by step

  1. Register and get functionally classified through WheelWOD. The fee and the exact process are to be confirmed.

  2. Do WheelWOD’s Adaptive Open, in the same weeks as the Open (workouts 27.1 to 27.3). There are two ways to take part: “for fun”, with no video, or “to qualify”, which requires functional classification, a score and a video. Only the second gives you a shot at the Semifinal.

  3. If you finish in the top 20 in your division (20 men and 20 women per division), you move on to the Online Semifinal, 13 to 18 May.

  4. The best in each division after the Semifinal go to the Adaptive CrossFit Games, organised by WheelWOD. Spots per division and sex depend on Open registrations.

Adaptive CrossFit Games 2027

Organised by WheelWOD. What is new is that the number of spots per division and per sex depends on Open registrations: the more athletes sign up in a division, the more spots it can have. Venue, dates and spots are to be confirmed.

What is still to be confirmed

  • The 2027 Adaptive rulebook and how functional classification works.
  • The registration fee.
  • Venue, dates and spots of the Adaptive Games.
  • Whether there is Adaptive at the World Fitness Project: the 2027 Series publishes no Adaptive division.
