Step-by-step path to the 2027 CrossFit Games

The CrossFit Games season is a funnel: lots of people at the start and very few at the end. It begins with the Open, which is the first stage and not a separate competition, and each stage lets fewer athletes through. Here are all the stages with dates, how many advance at each and a full example. Anything not published is marked as to be confirmed.

Step by step: the individual path

  1. Register for the Open on 7 January 2027 or later.

  2. Do the three workouts of the Open. One is released each Wednesday and you have until Monday at 5 p.m. PT to submit your score. You can do them in Rx’d, Scaled or Foundations.

  3. If you finish in the top 25% worldwide in your division, you move on to the Quarterfinals.

  4. Quarterfinals (15-22 March): a week to do the workouts at an affiliate and record your scores. In 2026 the Open ranking was reset here; for 2027 it is to be confirmed.

  5. If you finish in the top 2,000 men or top 2,000 women, you move on to the Semifinals.

  6. Semifinals: you can accept up to two in-person events (April to June) and also do the Online Semifinal, a last chance.

  7. If you finish in the top three of a Semifinal (online included), you go to the Games, which bring together 40 men and 40 women.

Other paths in one sentence

  • Masters: like Individual up to the Quarterfinals; then 400 or 300 per group to the Semifinals (in-person or online) and the Masters Games.
  • Teenagers: same route, but the Semifinal is online only (300 per group).
  • Adaptive: WheelWOD’s Adaptive Open, the top 20 in each division to the Online Semifinal and the Adaptive Games.
  • Teams: Open, in-person Team Qualifiers and Games. No Quarterfinals or Online Semifinal.
  • National title: Open, Quarterfinals and national event, Individual only and with the country’s citizenship.

How hard is it to get there

CrossFit says only around 0.10% of Open participants reach the Games or the national championship.
